There are just two months to go before members of the Travel Retail Consortium (TRC) – along with industry colleagues, friends and family –take part in two challenging ‘Walk for a Cure’ events in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

As its nominated charity for this year, the TRC is seeking to raise £18,000 (US$24,180) for the charity, which would fund a PHD research student for a year in its efforts to find a cure for a disease that will affect one in two people.

To date, the ‘walkers’ have raised just over £6,000(including gift-aid) towards the goal but there is still a long way to go. The TRC is appealing to the industry to dig deep to support the initiative.

The travel Retail Consortium hopes its fund-raising efforts will help fund a PHD research student

Sharon Edwards-Smith, TRC Chairperson, said, “The TRC has pledged to donate a further £6,000 to the cause and so if the industry could help us to raise an additional £6,000 then we will have made it.”

Donations can be made direct to the TRC page on this link: https://walk.alzheimersresearchuk.org/fundraisers/otravelretailconsortium (important, please scroll down to orange Donate to Travel Retail Consortium button) or to individuals taking part who may contact industry colleagues direct. All donations (whether to the TRC or individuals) go into the central Consortium fund-raising pot.

Members of the industry are also invited to take part in one of the walks and help fund-raise towards the total.  There’s a distance to suit everyone, whether a seasoned walker or a beginner.  Choose from 13,21 or 42 kilometers in the Peak District or 6, 21 or 34 kilometers in the Cotswolds.

“We currently have 23 signed up to walk at either one or both locations,” Edwards-Smith added. “But there is still time to sign up – the more that walk, the more we can raise.”

The TRC will have dedicated gazebos at both events for walkers and their supporters to meet up and use during the day. Champagne member Taittinger will be providing baseball caps to identify TRC walkers as they successfully cross the finishing line, while refreshments and sweet treats are being provided by members Accolade Wines/Vinarchy, Au Vodka, Butlers, Edinburgh Gin. Harrogate Water, Heineken and Rémy Cointreau.
