Lindt & Sprüngli debuts Tokyo Style Chocolade – Matcha Strawberry across key European airport hubs
The new tablet offers a fresh interpretation of the global matcha trend, inspired by the serenity of Japanese tea ceremonies and the growing desire for mindful indulgence

Leading premium confectionery brand Lindt & Sprüngli introduced its latest handcrafted creation this December with the debut of Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade – Matcha Strawberry, unveiled across Zurich, Geneva, and Frankfurt Airports.
Arriving one year after the acclaimed Lindt Dubai Style Chocolade, this new tablet offers travelers a fresh interpretation of the global matcha trend, inspired by the serenity of Japanese tea ceremonies and the growing desire for mindful indulgence.
Inspired by the precision of Japan’s 800-year tea tradition, Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade was crafted with the expertise of the Lindt Master Chocolatiers. The recipe brings together creamy white Lindt chocolate, ceremonial-grade Chamei Minami matcha, fruity strawberry pieces, and crispy Genmai rice roasted using traditional Japanese techniques to reveal a delicate, nutty aroma.

The philosophy behind the recipe draws from the world of Japanese tea ceremonies, where the finest matcha varieties are honored with a “Chamei” – a prestigious tea name conferred by tea masters to signify exceptional origin, character, and ceremonial value. Chamei Minami, selected for this creation, offers a subtle, refined balance and bright, elegant notes that pair naturally with strawberry and the smooth richness of Lindt’s chocolate.
To celebrate the unveiling, Lindt hosted a series of launch activations across its three European hub airports, with just three hundred handcrafted and individually numbered tablets available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The journey began on December 4 at Zurich Airport, where travelers were among the first in Global Travel Retail to experience the tablet through premium showcases that highlighted its handcrafted character and ceremonial matcha inspiration.
On December 5, the launch continued at Geneva Airport, introducing travelers to the new recipe within a premium Lindt environment designed to evoke the calm and ritual of tea preparation.
Later that day, Frankfurt Airport completed the trilogy of launches, where passengers discovered the tablet through immersive in-store visibility and engaging sampling experiences that showcased the refined flavor profile.
Peter Zehnder, Head of Global Travel Retail at Lindt & Sprüngli, commented, “With Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade, we continued our mission to enchant the world with chocolate by listening closely to what travelers are seeking today. The global matcha movement has evolved from a social media trend into a genuine appetite for authentic, premium taste experiences. This creation honors that interest by offering a ceremonial-grade interpretation crafted with Lindt’s expertise. It celebrates the heritage of Japan’s tea ceremonies while being reimagined through the artistry of Lindt chocolate.”
Christina Werner, Head of Buying Confectionery at retail partner Gebr. Heinemann echoed the strong consumer response: “With the new Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade, we are sending a strong signal for innovation and picking up on current trends in travel retail. The combination of high-quality ingredients and artisanal perfection makes this limited product a real highlight for travelers. We are particularly proud to be working with an influencer to target a young audience and thus provide fresh impetus for the industry.”
The debut of Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade reflects Lindt’s ongoing commitment to developing indulgent chocolate recipes shaped by premium ingredients and emerging flavor trends. Building on the momentum of the Dubai Style Chocolade, this latest creation underscores the potential of innovative taste exploration to elevate the confectionery experience for travelers.
