L'Oréal and Inter-African Marketing pioneer a new era: Africa's first dedicated L'Oréal shop-in-shop opens at Abuja Airport
This immersive beauty destination redefines luxury for travelers at Abuja Airport and marks the debut of Africa's first-ever L'Oréal-only shop-in-shop in travel retail

L'Oréal, the global beauty powerhouse, and Inter-African Marketing (IAM), a pivotal force in luxury beauty distribution and development across Sub-Saharan Africa, have announced the unveiling of an unprecedented luxury retail experience at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
This significant collaboration marks the debut of Africa's first-ever L'Oréal-only shop-in-shop in travel retail, fundamentally transforming the shopping journey into an extraordinary, immersive beauty destination.

A new era for African travel retail takes shape, driven by IAM's vision
Developed by IAM in close partnership with Dunes Duty Free, this sophisticated 50-square-meter boutique launched on November 6. The prestigious ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, heralded a new era for luxury travel retail in Africa. This innovative space transcends traditional retail, transforming the airport shopping journey into an immersive beauty destination.
An exclusive immersion for the discerning traveler
Far more than a mere retail space, this exclusive boutique, brought to life through the IAM–L’Oréal collaboration, is a captivating invitation to discovery and indulgence – meticulously crafted for business travelers and discerning luxury seekers alike. L’Oréal has engineered a true beauty sanctuary where experience is the new currency.
Passengers can explore a carefully curated selection of ultra-luxury and premium beauty brands, including YSL, Armani, Lancôme, Prada, Valentino, Mugler, Viktor & Rolf, Ralph Lauren, and Maison Margiela, alongside essential dermo-cosmetic brands such as La Roche-Posay, Vichy, and CeraVe — marking the first time L’Oréal’s dermatology portfolio has been introduced in such a configuration in Africa.
“This store is truly best-in-class, designed for engagement with Africa’s most sophisticated travelers,” says Patrick Richmond Utomoibor, L’Oréal Travel Retail EMEAI Area Manager for the Africa Zone. “It embodies our focus on consumer centricity, offering luxury brands, tailor-made offers, and expert service from highly trained beauty advisors. Simply put, this store is shaping the travel retail landscape in Africa.”
Utomoibor highlights the strategic vision behind the project. “This shop-in-shop represents a significant milestone for the L’Oréal Group in Africa’s second-largest beauty market,” he says. “It is a project meticulously designed to cater to the evolving needs of Nigerian and African travelers – and a reflection of our ambition to shape a future ecosystem for Africa travel retail. Beyond offering exceptional products, our vision is to foster an environment of inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability across the continent.
“True to L’Oréal’s sustainability commitments, we prioritized local production for all furniture and fixtures. This approach not only enhances the boutique’s modern aesthetic but also supports local artisans and reduces our environmental footprint. It is a powerful statement of how we can blend beauty, innovation, and responsibility to redefine the travel retail experience in Africa.”

Service excellence and personalization at its core
A team of highly trained beauty advisors is readily available to provide tailor-made consultations, ensuring a truly personalised experience that addresses each traveler’s unique beauty needs. This unwavering commitment to impeccable, individualized service perfectly aligns with L'Oréal Travel Retail’s core mission: to transform transit time into genuinely memorable and enriching moments, elevating every interaction into a discovery.

Setting a new benchmark
Johnny Lakhwani, Commercial Director at IAM, comments, “What we’ve achieved with L'Oréal at Abuja Airport is truly groundbreaking. This is Africa's inaugural L'Oréal-only shop-in-shop within an airport – a new benchmark that sets the stage for the future of beauty in travel retail across the continent.
“African travelers can now expect the same world-class brands and exceptional service found in leading international airports globally. Until now, the travel retail beauty and fragrance category in Africa has lacked a true benchmark. This opening establishes that standard – offering local and international travelers a premium experience that reflects their expectations and spending power.”
“L'Oréal is renowned for creating outstanding beauty environments, and this boutique is no exception,” he adds. “We are confident this opening will inspire other travel retailers across Africa to recognize this immense opportunity. African travelers possess the appetite and purchasing power; what they’ve yearned for is access to premium beauty experiences. This is just the beginning.”
This landmark opening, a testament to IAM's investment, firmly establishes Abuja as a pivotal hub for luxury and innovation.
Strategically located in Nigeria’s second-busiest airport, serving approximately three million passengers annually, this new space positions Abuja as a critical gateway for luxury and innovation in travel retail. The opening vividly underscores the booming African beauty market and the escalating demand for premium, experiential purchases. This collaboration signifies a bold, forward-thinking step in shaping the African travel retail landscape, promising unparalleled experiences and setting new standards for the entire continent.
