The Dalmore is a key brand in Whyte & Mackay's single malt Scotch portfolio

Whyte Mackay has confirmed its status as a gold-level partner for the inaugural Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) conference in Delhi, India, March 19 to 21.

The decision follows strong growth in the region and aims to underline the company’s position as a driving force in the Single Malt category. The partnership also highlights the strategic importance of Indian consumers for Whyte & Mackay which said it has contributed significant growth in the ME & I regions following the recent implementation of successful strategies and investments to win the Indian consumers with its portfolio of pedigree Single Malts.

Clarisse Daniels, Regional Director Global Travel Retail Whyte & Mackay, said, “As a new member of APTRA, we are excited to be supporting their fantastic initiative to focus on India and the Indian consumer, given the incredible potential these travellers represent for our channel.”

Daniels, who will take part in the discussion panel focusing on ‘spirits premiumization in India - maximizing the opportunity’, added, “Single malt Scotch is the engine of the spirits category and can help to drive spirits sales in global travel retail. The conference provides a great opportunity to share our insights, learnings and ideas with partners and colleagues.

“We look forward to continuing to drive the dynamism the category has experienced with our exceptional portfolio of Single malts.” She noted that the single malts were outperforming the market for growth in several regions, including India, “thanks to innovative and exciting new products that appeal to duty free shoppers, translating into increased footfall, penetration and spend for our retail partners”.

According to IWSR 2022, India Duty Free is the No1 Malt market in value in global travel retail, yet only 2% of the Indian population travelled in 2022. With more expected to travel in the future and, with their affinity to Single Malt, Whyte & Mackay sees Indian consumers and the single malt category as growth engines for travel retail.

With its portfolio of pedigree Single Malts – The Dalmore, Jura, Fettercairn and Tamnavulin – Whyte & Mackay was the fastest-growing Single Malt owner from 2019-2022, across both the domestic and global travel retail channels (IWSR).
