The range features a trio of aged single malts featuring a rich and complex Madeira cask finish
Bacardi Global Travel Retail (GTR) has launched a premium Aberfeldy GTR Madeira Cask range. Exclusive to travel retail, the 40% ABV range (70cl bottles) is a trio of aged single malts featuring a rich and complex Madeira cask finish. Showcased with intricate gold foil and embossed detailing, the recyclable packaging reflects Aberfeldy's commitment to combining premiumization with sustainability.
As demand for single-malt Scotch whisky grows globally in GTR, Bacardi is continuing its commitment to premiumization, underpinned by a strong pipeline of innovation to continue the strong growth of the award-winning Aberfeldy single-malt.
The refreshed range now comprises Aberfeldy 12-Year-Old Madeira Cask (US$58), Aberfeldy 16-Year-Old Madeira Cask (US$120) and Aberfeldy 21-Year-Old Madeira Cask (US$230), a unique fortified wine John Dewar & Sons Malt Master Stephanie Macleod believes compliments Aberfeldy's rich character. The previous GTR range featured a 12-Year-Old expression finished in a mixture of sherry and bourbon casks.
Madeira’s unique flavor profile is a result of its unorthodox ageing process which involves deliberately heating and cooling the wines dozens of times in porous oak casks that are only half-filled to increase the wine’s exposure to oxygen, resulting in a distinctive and characterful flavor. Prized for their balance of crisp freshness and sweet nuttiness, the stability of Madeira wines means they can cellar for over a hundred years or more.
“Madeira is Aberfeldy's best friend,” said Macleod. “This delicious wine perfectly complements Aberfeldy's rich character. Aberfeldy is both approachable and complex and has the same sweet rich notes that Madeira wine is famed for. By finishing in Madeira casks, this new travel-retail range gives consumers a point of difference while retaining Aberfeldy's signature smooth taste.”
Bacardi GTR Global Head of Marketing Ignacio Vazquez added, “We have created the new Aberfeldy GTR Madeira Cask range for the many whisky lovers and collectors in the know who come to travel retail to seek out new discoveries. Exclusivity has become an even more important purchase driver in travel-retail since the pandemic, and the outstanding flavors in these whiskies personify Aberfeldy's affinity with Madeira wine casks.”
In 1896, John Dewar & Sons established ABERFELDY Distillery on the picturesque southern edge of the upper Tay Valley in Perthshire, Scotland. The distillery continues to source its water from the Pitilie Burn, where alluvial gold is occasionally panned. Aberfeldy employs an extensive fermentation period and utilizes premium oak casks, resulting in their distinctive fruity whiskies renowned for their honeyed richness.
A lighter glass bottle and a move away from the previous 1-liter bottle size to a more giftable 70cl format. The packaging is now entirely plastic-free and fully recyclable across the range.
