Suntory and Delhi Duty Free launch innovative shop-in-shop experience
Suntory Global Spirits and Delhi Duty Free have announced a groundbreaking partnership, launching an exclusive House of Suntory Shop-in-Shop at Terminal 3 Departures in Indira Gandhi International Airport on December 19, 2024. This partnership integrates Suntory’s heritage with Delhi Duty Free’s retail expertise.
Drawing from Japanese art and culture, the installation builds on Suntory’s century of innovation. Founded in 1923, Suntory marked its 100th anniversary last year, celebrating founder Shinjiro Torii’s vision of creating authentic Japanese whisky using Monozukuri craftsmanship and Japanese natural resources. Beyond its award-winning whisky portfolio, Suntory produces Roku Japanese Craft Gin and Haku Japanese Craft Vodka.
The shop-in-shop embodies Torii’s “Yatte Minahare” philosophy through three pillars: harmony with Japanese nature, Monozukuri craftsmanship and authentic Omotenashi cultural experience. A floor-to-ceiling Kigumi wooden lattice structure anchors the space, while the main circular display screen draws inspiration from Marumado traditional round windows, typically designed to frame garden views.
The entrance features three podiums on a Zen Garden, displaying Yamazaki and Hakushu bottles that showcase collaborations with Chiso Kimono House. An interactive iPad invites visitors to explore this partnership’s story. The central gondola offers dual experiences: digital content showcasing Suntory’s portfolio and “The Art of Japanese Gifting” featuring Kandji cards with Shodo calligraphy for personalization. The House of Suntory Wall Bay displays the complete range, including rare aged whiskies.
Ashish Gandham, Managing Director-Global Travel Retail, Suntory Global Spirits, said: “Our partnership with Delhi Duty Free to launch the Suntory Shop-in-Shop represents our commitment to bringing premium spirits to one of the world’s most dynamic airports. This collaboration creates an elevated space where travelers can experience the rich legacy of Suntory and the art of Japanese whisky. Together, we are creating a premium, interactive environment that reflects our shared vision of offering experiences tailored to the preferences of today’s discerning consumers.”
Delhi Duty Free CEO Ashish Chopra added: “Delhi Duty Free has always been at the forefront of delivering exceptional experiences to travelers. Partnering with Suntory, a global icon of excellence, enables us to offer a unique journey that celebrates heritage, innovation, and the spirit of luxury. This is a proud moment for us as we redefine what it means to shop in a duty-free space.”
