Lotte Duty Free introduces Travel Club X

Lotte Duty Free has launched a new Travel Club X customer loyalty concept, targeting Generation X consumers born between 1965 and 1980.

Lotte Duty Free CEO Kim Ju Nam said the paid membership Travel Club X is a first in South Korea’s duty free industry, extending its Young Travel Club, which targeted people in their 20s and 30s.

The leading travel retailer noted that Generation X consumers have high spending power and actively accept new technologies and cultures such as online shopping, smartphones, and AI. From January to September of this year, customers of this age group at Lotte Duty Free accounted for approximately 30% of sales to Koreans, and the average purchase amount per person was also analyzed to be approximately 32% higher than that of the MZ generation.

Recruitment for Travel Club X will be limited to the first 200 people until November 3, and the benefit period will last until the end of this year.

The membership fee is KRW200,000 (US$148), with shopping rewards for customers including the same amount in LDF Pay, which can be used as cash, along with KRW80,000 (US$60) in discount coupons. Premium upgrades are offered, along with Star Lounge passes and airport pickup benefits. Welcome gifts include a Whoo foam cleanser and 7-day supply of Orthmol Iummne.

A Lotte Duty Free official said, "We are the first in the domestic duty free industry to introduce a membership dedicated to Generation X to increase customer loyalty. We will continue to focus on providing customized services that reflect the characteristics and preferences of our customers."

In addition, Lotte Duty Free is offering various duty-free shopping benefits for Korean customers, such as LDF PAY gifting events and prize events based on purchase amount, in time for the peak travel season in the fall.

This includes up to KRW1.24 million (US$920) in LDF Pay at downtown stores until 3 November. Customers spending over US$300 at offline stores will be eligible to enter a lucky draw for a two-night stay at Galaxy Macau resort complex and a round-trip ticket on Air Macau. The retailer is also offering LG Wine Cellar Mini and Fred bracelets through a special offer for wedding customers aged 24 to 25.
