Gebr. Heinemann has successfully expanded the Main Shop Plaza in Terminal 1 at Vienna Airport. The store has grown from 1,200 square meters to around 2,000 square meters and now offers the largest travel retail experience in Austria.

The additional space will allow for an expanded product range to offer categories that are particularly popular with travelers and in growing demand. These include sunglasses, leather goods, sneakers and niche fragrances. Depending on the development of demand, the offering is quickly and flexibly adapted to the needs of travelers.

Regional products such as Mozartkugeln, Manner waffles, original Sachertorte and Viennese wine are also in high demand and can be offered in an even wider selection thanks to the additional space. Newly available are fashion brands such as Steve Madden and Michael Kors, as well as perfume and cosmetics brands such as Armani Privé, Creed and Kérastase.

More flexible furniture, more digitalization

The store design is based on the market stalls at Vienna's Naschmarkt. A flexible furniture system allows for quick changes without having to replace furniture. Digital elements such as the Lift & Learn Wine Screen and a Scent Table offer a modern shopping experience. Said to be a guaranteed eye-catcher: on the west side of the plaza is a video wall approximately 13 meters high and 7 meters wide. Brands, including Steve Madden, are staged on this wall in an immersive way. Directly in front of the wall is a promotional area where the products are presented in a correspondingly.

The expansion will create 13 new full-time positions. A total of 63 full-time employees work at the store.

Christoph Stump, Director Sales, emphasized on the occasion of the opening said, "We are proud to be able to offer our customers an even wider and more exclusive range of products. The expansion of the store is an important step towards further improving the shopping experience at Vienna Airport. Our aim is to be a valuable travel companion for travelers and to surprise and inspire them again and again with our spectacular assortment."

Julian Jäger, Joint CEO & COO at Vienna Airport, added, “Vienna Airport recorded exceptional numbers this summer. With the growing traffic, it remains our goal to provide all travelers with a first-class experience and a pleasant stay. This also includes the continuous enhancement of the shopping offerings. The new duty free shop has been very successful in this regard: more brand variety, a stronger regional assortment, more fashion and accessories, and a modern, inviting atmosphere. The reopening is another milestone in our long-standing, successful partnership with Gebr. Heinemann. It underscores our commitment to positioning Vienna Airport as a 5-star airport in the long term.”

Gebr. Heinemann has been operating stores at Vienna Airport since 2003 and now has nine stores with a total area of 4,800 square meters. The company will open a 3,200-square-meter store there when the south extension opens in 2027. The partnership between Vienna Airport and Gebr. Heinemann has been extended until 2034.
