Lotte Duty Free’s new visual identity wins Red Dot Design Award 2022

By Jane Hobson

Lotte Duty Free has announced today that its new visual identity, which was introduced earlier this year to celebrate its 42nd anniversary, has won the Red Dot Award 2022.

Germany's Red Dot Award, which boasts a 67-year history, is one of the world's most prestigious design competitions, and 24 design experts from around the world evaluate the innovativeness, originality, and differentiation of designs to select the winning work.

Lotte Duty Free was honored to be the winner of this year's Red Dot Design Award in the 'Brand & Communication Design' category, reads the August 11 press release.

The retailer is no stranger to the award. In 2017, Lotte Duty Free was selected for the best typeface, and, in earlier years, won the main prize for the 40th anniversary of Lotte Duty Free's heritage book and emblem.

The motif of the new visual identity launched this year is a hot air balloon, the first successful case of human flight technology. It contains the 'success DNA' of Lotte Duty Free, which is expanding its business not only to duty-free shops but also to other tourism distribution areas, and is leaping forward as a travel retailer.

The six hot air balloon symbolizes the representative product categories of duty-free shops such as cosmetics, fashion, and electronic devices.
