Sunil Tuli will climb to Everest base camp in support of Smile Train

By Hibah Noor

Sunil Tuli, Group CEO of King Power Group (Hong Kong) and President of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), has reached out to the travel retail community for support of his planned trek to Mount Everest Base Camp, to raise funds for Smile Train. Already well supported in the travel retail community, Smile Train has transformed the lives of 1.5 million children in the past 20 years by providing cleft surgery.

Tuli, who has been training hard for the 5,400-meter ascent, will begin the 14-day endeavour on September 1. His original goal was to raise US$35,000, enough to fund 100 surgeries, but that goal has already been surpassed. Tuli hopes his friends in travel retail will help that number soar higher, providing many more children with a brighter smile — and a brighter future.

During a recent trip to Nepal (pictured above and below), Tuli and his wife Shikha visited B&B Hospital, a Smile Train partner in Kathmandu, Nepal and the specific location benefitting from the funds raised from Tuli’s Mount Everest ascent. While there, the couple met with the team from Smile Team, and also the local medical team, patients and their parents.

In addition to his great upcoming effort, Tuli has expressed support for Smile Team, stating how impressed he is with the difference the organization continually makes on the lives of so many children and their families.

The link for making the contributions will be ready by July 1, 2023, and is being created by Smile Train, and the donations will all go directly to the charity for the surgeries.
