This year 2.0 & Partners plans to carry out beach cleans to remove plastic and waste from the oceans

Specialist travel retail agency 2.0 & Partners has announced that it is becoming an official Independent Supporter of The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization working to rid the oceans of plastic pollution.

"Our support of this great cause is much more than just a token gesture, it is part of a much wider battle which I want to wage across our business," wrote Senior Executive VP Marco Passoni in a blog on the company's website. "The work of The Ocean Cleanup is an incredible cause and it is one which I encourage each of you to look up and support yourselves – this will not be the last time you hear me suggest this."

The company is pushing for "a movement of Plastic Hunters in duty free and travel retail" that goes beyond talk to action. "We need to call out token gestures and always ask what is next? What more can be done?"

Passoni praised companies like HMSHost for rolling out non-plastic straws across its US airport business and Patagonia for "destroying greenwashing by becoming a non-profit to support the environment."

"They are not unique outliers. They should be aspirational. That is not an achievable move for every company, but everyone should be asking how close to that level they can get."

Supporting The Ocean Cleanup is a part of 2.0 Partners' ongoing efforts, which include offsetting carbon by working with Ecologi. This year the company plans to carry out beach cleans to remove plastic and waste from the oceans, with the first beach clean taking place on June 4.
