Hamad International Airport expands with newly opened Concourse E, adding eight contact gates to enhance capacity, accessibility and passenger experience

Hamad International Airport (DOH) has inaugurated Concourse E, delivering eight new contact gates as part of its ongoing terminal expansion program. The 51,000-square-meter development increases overall contact gate capacity by 20%, reducing the airport’s reliance on remote gates and bus operations.

The new concourse integrates self-boarding technology that automatically scans boarding passes to streamline the passenger journey. Universal design principles feature prominently, with hearing loops, ramps, elevators and spacious seating areas enhancing accessibility.

Passenger amenities include ergonomically designed seating with built-in power outlets, while the development also houses additional retail and dining options. The infrastructure incorporates energy-efficient systems, innovative water management solutions and optimized thermal comfort features.

DOH’s latest expansion phase marks a 20% increase in contact gates, with focus on boarding efficiency and sustainability ahead of further development to be announced

“We are thrilled to see this modern concourse come to life, providing our passengers with a more seamless and comfortable travel experience,” says Hamad Ali Al-Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport. “This expansion reflects our commitment to delivering world-class facilities that emphasize efficiency, accessibility and sustainability. With the launch of Concourse E, travelers can experience the first phase of a transformative expansion aimed at elevating every aspect of their journey. This marks only the beginning, with further developments planned to enhance connectivity, capacity and the overall experience at Hamad International Airport.”

The opening comes as Hamad International builds on its recent industry recognition. The hub was named World’s Best Airport at the 2024 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards for the third time, while also securing Best Airport Shopping for the second consecutive year, Best Airport in the Middle East for the tenth year running, Best Airport 40 to 50 Million Passengers and Cleanest Airport in the Middle East for the second time.

Further development is imminent, with details of the Concourse D expansion to be announced in the coming weeks.
