FAA Nigeria MD Kuku plans infrastructure revamp

FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, who has earned widespread industry recognition for transforming Nigeria's airports during her first year in office, looks ahead to further infrastructural improvements in 2025

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is set to embark on major infrastructure upgrades across its network in 2025, with plans for a new headquarters building at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos and extensive runway renovations at multiple airports.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku is prioritizing these strategic projects to standardize and enhance airport infrastructure following her successful first year in office.

The new FAAN headquarters project, originally proposed by former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, was previously shelved when aviation was separated from the transport ministry. Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika had opted to relocate FAAN's head office to Abuja, but it returned to Lagos under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Beyond the headquarters project Kuku plans to renovate multiple airport runways to address airline operators' concerns about their condition. The authority will also focus on expanding domestic cargo operations, viewing this as an opportunity to boost revenue at smaller airports.
