Narita’s expanded Terminal 3 to open in April

By Wendy Morley

Narita's Terminal 3 achieved higher-than-expected passenger numbers; expansion will double capacity from the terminal's opening in 2015

Narita has announced the expansion of its Terminal 3, which was accomplished because of increasing demand of LCCs. This expanded Terminal, which doubles original capacity to 15 million PAX, will begin service in April 2022.

Terminal 3 is an exclusive terminal for LCCs, opened on April 8, 2015, as a functional and comfortable facility with an annual handling capacity of 7.5 million passengers. However, with the greater-than-expected growth of LCC, such as the usage by 7.64 million passengers in 2017, expansion was announced in April 2018, and the Airport has been working on preparations therefor.

Following are the changes that will be seen at the Terminal:

The Departures lobby will be expanded

CUSS and CUBD that contribute in the promotion of non-contact services and FAST TRAVEL will be widely available

New access route to shorten the travel distance between T2 and T3

Pedestrian and vehicle routes are completely separated with grade separation.

Improving the ease of walking and securing visibility by expanding the width of the passageway

The Airport has also made changes that improve traveler convenience, such as separating arriving and departing passengers to alleviate congestion.

Soon, the Airport will begin working on the development of commercial facilities in Departures.
