Masi Agricola brings the essence of Valpolicella to TFWA Asia Pacific 2025

By Laura Shirk

"Capable of defying time": Vajo dei Masi 1999, a rare and precious Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC

Masi Agricola returns to the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore next month with a refined selection highlighting the winemaking tradition of Italy’s Veneto region (Stand F19, Basement 2).

A well-established name in the duty-free channel, Masi will spotlight Amarone and its most iconic wines, interpreted through a modern lens that blends roots with innovation.

The star of the 2025 edition will be Vajo dei Masi 1999, a rare and precious Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC capable of defying time. This extraordinary wine comes from a historic cru acquired by the Boscaini family in 1772, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica. According to Masi, the vineyard has given rise not only to one of Masi's most iconic labels but has also inspired the name of the estate and the winery itself, symbolizing centuries of winemaking tradition.

The 1999 vintage represents an exceptional year and Masi’s ongoing commitment to innovation and quality. After careful selection, the grapes – Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone, and Molinara – were dried on bamboo racks until early February of the following year. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, followed by long aging in new 600-liter French oak barrels from June 2000 to October 2003.

What makes this Amarone unique, however, is the revolutionary preservation method devised by Masi’s Technical Team. The wine was stored in nitrogen-saturated steel tanks for over 20 years after aging in wood for five years. This technique has literally ‘stopped time’, preserving freshness, complexity, and aromatic integrity even after 25 years.

Available in individually numbered bottles (1,600 standard and 200 magnums), Vajo dei Masi 1999 is described as a masterpiece that celebrates the harmonious fusion of tradition, passion, and winemaking avant-garde. Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi and widely known as ‘Mister Amarone’, said, “Our goal in creating Vajo dei Masi was to introduce a new, authentic Amarone: a rare and precious jewel to add to the range of cru and great reserves for which Masi is globally recognized.”

Bonacosta Valpolicella Classico features a new lightweight bottle

Among the key highlights at the Singapore event will also be Bonacosta Valpolicella Classico, one of Masi’s most appreciated and accessible wines, which will be presented in its new contemporary format. As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, starting with the 2024 vintage, Bonacosta will adopt a new lightweight 410g Burgundy-style bottle. In addition to reducing environmental impact, this choice also represents an evolution in terms of distinctive positioning. The Burgundy bottle is often associated with elegant, territorial, and artisanal wines, qualities that Bonacosta proudly embodies.

The new bottle is complemented by a redesign of the label, which further enhances the brand and highlights the iconic angel motif – the symbol of the classic and terroir-driven wines in Masi's portfolio - reaffirming the company’s commitment to ensuring quality and personality in every segment of its offering.

Pier Giuseppe Torresani, Masi’s Global Travel Retail Sales Director, presents Nectar Campofiorin

Masi said the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference also represents the perfect opportunity for the presentation of two exclusive wines crafted for the travel retail channel: Nectar Campofiorin 2020 and Nectar Costasera 2019. These refined interpretations of Masi's flagship labels have been developed to provide an elevated experience for international travelers, focusing on elegance, richness, and distinctiveness. Both wines feature a higher percentage of Corvina, the emblematic grape of Valpolicella, enhancing aromatic intensity, depth, and velvety softness.

Pier Giuseppe Torresani, Masi’s Global Travel Retail Sales Director, commented, “Masi has long recognized the great potential of the Asian Travel Retail market and continues to strategically invest in its growth. Regions such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East are particularly dynamic, with a growing demand for premium Italian wines. Our expansion in these areas demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of international travelers. By strengthening partnerships with key duty-free operators, we ensure that Amarone and Masi's iconic wines are increasingly accessible to a global audience, blending tradition and contemporary experience in travel retail.”

Masi will be exhibiting alongside Cono Sur, Symington, and Famille Perrin of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, members of the Travel Retail Fine Wine Alliance, a collaboration aimed at enhancing the presence of fine wines in the international travel retail channel.
