Bacardi Global Travel Retail unveils latest addition to Royal Brackla Exceptional Cask series

By Wendy Morley

Bacardi Global Travel Retail Division has revealed the latest addition to its highly acclaimed Exceptional Cask Series: Royal Brackla Exceptional Cask 24 Years Old Oloroso Sherry Finish.

The Highland single malt whisky is said to embody the craftsmanship and innovation for which Royal Brackla is celebrated.

Initially launched at Lotte Duty Free stores in Singapore Changi Airport in late 2024, this rare cask-strength release is now available in Avolta’s World Duty Free stores at UK airports and duty-free outlets across South Korea. With a strictly limited run of only 396 bottles, this collectable whisky is expected to generate significant demand among connoisseurs and collectors.

Royal Brackla Exceptional Cask 24 Years Old Oloroso Sherry Finish was distilled in October 1999 and spent its early years in a refill hogshead cask. In 2014, it was transferred to an Oloroso sherry cask, enhancing the whisky’s distinctive character. The result is a complex, multi-layered whisky, where the warmth of Oloroso spice evolves into notes of soft caramel and ripe cherries, all while preserving the signature elegance of Royal Brackla.

Darragh Ryan, Marketing Director at Bacardi Global Travel Retail, said, “At Bacardi Global Travel Retail, we are driven to create extraordinary experiences for traveling whisky enthusiasts, and the Exceptional Cask Series represents the pinnacle of that commitment.

“The Royal Brackla Exceptional Cask 24 Year Old is a stunning example of how tradition and innovation can combine to create a truly unforgettable whisky. Its journey through time and cask tells a story that is as rich and complex as the liquid itself.”

With an ABV of 51.8%, Royal Brackla Exceptional Cask 24 Year Old’s tasting notes include warm Oloroso sherry spice leading to velvety caramel and ripe cherries, balancing complexity with a smooth finish

Royal Brackla is said to hold a unique place in the history of Scotch whisky. Known as Scotland’s original “King’s Own Whisky”, it owes its royal title to Captain William Fraser, who founded the Brackla distillery in 1817. Captain Fraser’s relentless pursuit of quality earned Royal Brackla the first-ever Royal Warrant in Scotch whisky history, granted by King William IV in 1835.

Despite Fraser’s colorful reputation, his whisky’s excellence was undisputed. Over the years, Royal Brackla evolved from being a key contributor to blended Scotch whiskies to standing out as an exceptional single malt. Today, the reputation of Royal Brackla continues to grow as a cornerstone of the Exceptional Cask Series, offering discerning whisky lovers unparalleled quality and character.
