The Sexton debuts 11-year-old single malt for travel retail
Master Blender Alex Thomas pushes creative boundaries with a heavily sherried expression that showcases Northern Ireland's whiskey-making heritage through modern innovation
The Sexton Irish Whiskey has launched its first line extension with an 11-year-old single malt created exclusively for global travel retail. The release represents a significant milestone for the brand, building on the success of its original expression which earned double gold at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Crafted from 100% Irish malted barley and triple-distilled in copper pot stills on Ireland's North coast, the whiskey matures for a minimum of 11 years in Oloroso sherry-seasoned French oak barrels from the Antonio Paez Labato family bodega in Jerez, Spain.
"The liquid in this release was one of the first batches of stock I laid down over 11 years ago in the early days of my tenure as Master Blender," says Alex Thomas, who earned her Master Blender qualification in 2012. "I knew there was something special about this liquid and felt it would be best left resting for another few years to develop a stunningly unique flavor profile."
The Sexton 11 Year Old Single Malt's signature hexagonal bottle reveals a deep mahogany-hued whiskey within, reflecting its extended sherry cask maturation
The extended maturation in sherry casks yields a deep mahogany-hued whiskey with notes of dried fruits, dark chocolate and subtle oak, finishing with rich fruit cake character. The expression is bottled at 43% ABV in the brand's signature black hexagonal bottle.
"The Sexton 11 Year Old Single Malt offers a modern, approachable take on Irish single malt, designed to captivate both seasoned whiskey enthusiasts and those new to exploring the category," says Roy Summers, Head of Global Travel Retail at Proximo.
The whiskey launches first in Dublin and Cork airports this January, priced at €41 duty free per 700ml bottle, with wider global travel retail distribution planned throughout 2025.
