Pernod Ricard reveals The Glenlivet’s The Groundbreaker Collection

Pride of place: The Glenlivet's The Groundbreaker Collection at Singapore Changi Airport
Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail (PR GTR) has revealed The Glenlivet’s new innovative limited edition, The Groundbreaker Collection with Lotte Duty Free at Singapore Changi Airport.
Travel retail exclusive, the collection marks a first-ever collaboration with a series of Speyside single malts that celebrate creatives - like founder George Smith - who achieve greatness by forging their own paths. Each chapter will celebrate original artists who, through travel, have set new standards in their artistic craft.
For the first release in this series, ‘Chapter One: The Journey Inward’, The Glenlivet has partnered with renowned artist Red Hong Yi, known as ‘The Artist Who Paints Without A Brush’.
Red Hong Yi, who designed the limited-edition packaging, uses fire to char traditional Chinese pigment paper, leaving distinctive impressions in her signature red color. Her global travels are a primary influence on her work, along with social causes and women in art, leading to an international high profile and being named by Tatler Magazine in 2020 as one of Asia’s most influential voices.

Emulating her creative process, with The Groundbreaker, a portion of the whisky is selectively finished in double-charred American Oak and European Red Wine casks – a first for The Glenlivet. The heavy char amplifies the signature sweet notes of pear, toffee and vanilla, which pairs beautifully with the red berry fruits, cinnamon spice, ginger and dried fruits from the red wine casks.
Travellers through Singapore Changi Airport, Terminal 1 Departure Transit, between September 17 and October 24, can sample The Groundbreaker at an immersive Changi 1st pop-up offering a suite of experiential activities, in partnership with Lotte Duty Free Singapore.
The first global travel retail launchpad for The Groundbreaker Collection, the pop-up design emulates the intricate Groundbreaker packaging, for which Hong Yi created four separate charred and textured canvases each depicting an aerial scene from a place which has positively influenced her, both personally and as an artist. Hong Yi’s art offer a ‘journey’ from the mountains of Borneo, to the bustling streets of Shanghai, onto the shores of Los Angeles and finally to the Livet Valley in Scotland.
Once inside the pop-up, shoppers are invited to discover more about The Glenlivet Groundbreaker Collection through an engaging digital activity on a bespoke app accessible via instore iPads.
Inspired by Hong Yi’s designs, shoppers are encouraged to create their own masterpiece on a digital postcard, which they also have the option to print onsite.
Moving to a more sensorial experience, shoppers can then take in the sweet and charred scent of the liquid from a stimulating aromatizer, before moving to the bar for guided tastings. In addition to a paper gift bag, those spending over US$136 qualify for a complimentary red leather and brass Groundbreaker compass keyring and those spending over US$309 can walk away with a smart trolley bag.
