Edrington has introduced a new packaging design for Highland Park’s 14, 16, and 18-year-old travel retail exclusive whiskies, drawing inspiration from its Orkney home. The redesign, set to roll out globally from late 2024, features strata patterns that reflect Orkney’s unique environment.

The 14-year-old Land of Orkney showcases the island’s contrasting landscapes, the 16-year-old Sea of Orkney captures the vibrant sea, and the 18-year-old Sky of Orkney highlights the dramatic skies. This reinterpretation marks a new era for the 226-year-old distillery, celebrating its distinctive Orkney provenance.

Orkney’s temperate climate, influenced by the Gulf Stream, provides ideal conditions for whisky aging. The islands’ unique peat, infused with floral heather due to the lack of trees, contributes to Highland Park’s distinctive flavor profile.
The new design features a fresh color palette inspired by Orkney’s ethereal light and climate. It includes heather-flecked labels and an updated logo. The bottle shape has been redesigned to showcase the whisky’s natural color, and a “Product of Orkney” icon is cut into the glass.

Paul Condron, Highland Park’s Global Brand Director, said, “For Highland Park, everything comes back to Orkney, from how we craft our whisky, to how it gets its distinctive taste, to the incredible community of people, who do things their own way. We’ve been here for more than 200 years, and the beauty and creativity of our island home continues to inspire us, as well as the unique flavor of the local heathered peat, which, with the new packaging design, is now celebrated, front and center. We’re excited to share this new design direction across our Global Travel Retail whiskies for Highland Park. The new look reflects the freshness and modernity of our Orkney home.”
Highland Park’s Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, added, “It’s Orkney’s heathered peat that gives us our subtly smoky flavour and it’s as unique as the place it’s made. We know that’s what our community really love about Highland Park. With the packaging update, we have a great opportunity to celebrate a new look, whilst continuing to share the distinctive, consistent whisky we’re famed for. It’s a flavor that just can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.”

Highland Park Land of Orkney 14-Year-Old is subtly sweet and smoky with a light gold color derived directly from the cask. It combines smooth vanilla notes with the unique aromatic flavor of Orkney heathered peat, reflecting the contrasts of the Orkney landscape. The sweetness comes primarily from first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak casks, balanced with refill casks for a smooth finish

Highland Park Sea of Orkney 16-Year-Old is a refined, balanced whisky that blends sweet smokiness with subtle spicy notes. It has a natural deep amber color from the cask. Named after the waters surrounding Highland Park's Orkney home, it's full of character yet wonderfully smooth. Its flavor profile is derived from whiskies matured in first-fill sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, delivering notes of fruit, spice, and sweet vanilla. Refill casks are used to round out these flavors for a smooth and subtle result

Highland Park Sky of Orkney 18-Year-Old is intensely aromatic, rich and carefully balanced, allowing all its flavor layers to shine. It has a natural deep amber color from the cask. The Sky of Orkney 18-Year-Old gets its dramatic fruity and spicy flavors from whiskies matured in first-fill, sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks. Refill casks are used to mellow and smooth out the complex flavors, adding balance and nuttiness for a lingering finish. Its name is inspired by Orkney's dramatic skies, known for long days, long nights, intense sunsets, and stunning auroras
The global creative agency D8 Studio designed the new packaging. Founded in 1999, D8 has studios in the UK, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Australia, serving clients from start-ups to household names.
