Courvoisier celebrates the ‘rebirth’ of its historic Jarnac Maison

French elegance meets Courvoisier excellence at 'The Most Awarded Cognac House' reopens
Courvoisier has reopened its historic its Maison in Jarnac, France, following an extensive restoration led by French architecture and interior design agency, Gilles & Boissier and a team of local and international artists and artisans.
Its ‘reawakening’ is said to symbolize Courvoisier’s determination to enhance Cognac on the global stage and within the travel retail channel.
Marco Cavagnera, Managing Director Global Travel Retail at Campari Group, commented, “The restoration of Maison Courvoisier is a significant milestone for the brand, and Campari Group, as we seek to reconnect travellers with the Cognac category.
“In travel retail, we see a clear opportunity to drive the premium brown spirits globally with our broadened Cognac portfolio and the rebirth of the Maison writes the first page of this exciting new chapter. A stunning blend of Courvoisier heritage, savoir-faire and innovation, the Maison exemplifies the cultural relevance of our brands that is key to engaging visitors and travelers alike. We look forward to bringing to life the rich tapestry of stories from the Maison in travel retail, in collaboration with our retail partners, in the years ahead.”

The project blends Courvoisier’s rich heritage with modern elegance, creating an inviting space that celebrates nearly 200 years of craftsmanship
Honoring nearly 200 years of history and savoir-faire, the Maison, filled with exceptional designs that highlight the surrounding vineyards, terroir and rich landscape of the region, is welcoming guests from around the world from this month (October).
The Maison was built in 1857, inspired by Paris’ iconic ‘Pavillon de Flore’ at the Louvre Museum, a place dear to the Maison’s founder, Félix Courvoisier, who was regarded as a visionary and a dedicated host. When he introduced the brand in 1828, he envisioned a warm and welcoming space for friends and family to share his unique vision of “Joie de Vivre.” This newly revitalized home will be the same beacon for global inspiration, innovation and education for Courvoisier today.
The transformation of the five-story building is the result of a like-minded collaboration between Courvoisier and the international design studio Gilles & Boissier. Led by the husband and wife duo, Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier, the studio's work is influenced by their French heritage and artistic culture.
A stylish red Bar Lounge immerses guests in a cabinet of curiosities, each element chosen to create an intimate atmosphere. Curated thanks to thorough archive research by Courvoisier’s inhouse Historian, Isabelle Vignon, the room tells the narration of Félix Courvoisier's story and those that followed his legacy. The Cognac Tasting Room, adorned with a work from etching artist Francois Houtin, sets a black and white scene of the neighboring landscape of vineyards and landmarks. A subtly selected marble with low-contrast veins and muted tones was purposefully chosen by Gilles & Boissier to preserve the color of the cognac during tasting, ensuring a unique sensory experience.

The Dining Room is the centerpiece of the chateau, with a marble table and carved wood wall panels by Zoé Ouvrier
“It has been an incredible journey to explore the brand's history and honor it in today's context,” Vignon said. Félix Courvoisier and his successors each left their mark on Courvoisier’s legacy, all passing through this house. The restoration of the Maison seeks to rejuvenate its soul with a contemporary touch, and we look forward to welcoming esteemed friends from around the world.”
Throughout the house, art pieces by French artists Zoé Ouvrier, Anne-Charlotte Saliba, François Houtin, Lilian Daubisse and Carole Descordes, Molly Gambardella from the US and Veronique Van der Esch from Belgium each express nature and what Courvoisier’s DNA meant to them through their own lens.
Maison Courvoisier's restoration marks one of Gilles & Boissier's most significant long-term projects in France. “We undertook this project with great pride and a determination to harmoniously blend together the chateau’s rich French heritage with the excellence of the brand,” the company said. “We worked to elevate and honor what was already there at the Maison, while introducing a new relevancy and energy that reflects the values of Courvoisier and its commitment not only to build on the legacy of the past but also to look to the future for inspiration and clarity of purpose. Exceptional levels of detail have been considered in every element of the design including a bench carved from a magnificent piece of wood from the cellar, testifying to Courvoisier’s deep attachment to their roots.”
“Unparalled” Cognac
Courvoisier has created a range of world-renowned expressions tailored to diverse cognac preferences and lifestyles, all artfully blended in the Maison's signature floral style “cognac in blossom”. This selection includes the classic VS, VSOP, XO and the Prestige Collection featuring XO, XO Royal, Extra and the ultimate expression of the House, L'Essence de Courvoisier.

Courvoisier offers a prestige portfolio in global travel retail
The brand continues to value its long-established relationships with local artisans and winegrowers to produce its high-quality, balanced and vibrant cognacs that reflect its legacy of excellence.
In the global travel retail channel, Courvoisier offers a versatile range of serves that highlight its layered character, making it ideal for modern travellers seeking distinctive experiences. Classic cocktails like the Sidecar showcase Courvoisier’s rich heritage and craftsmanship, providing a timeless way to enjoy the brand; while Courvoisier XO, and the broader prestige portfolio, are ideal for neat sipping to fully savor their exceptional quality.
Thibaut Hontanx, Maison Courvoisier’s Master Blender, commented, “At Maison Courvoisier, we are fortunate to possess a legacy built on some of the rarest and most exceptional cognacs, maturing gracefully in our cellars. The recent restoration now provides a backdrop to our cognacs that perfectly complements the distinctive character of these blends. Our collection of cognacs, much like the Maison itself.”
Homage to the past and visions of the future
The reopening of Maison Courvoisier is said to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter, blending tradition with innovation, and inviting guests to experience the essence of Courvoisier's rich heritage and vision for the future.
While access to the Maison itself remains limited, the doors will open for visitors punctually around the year, for tours and tastings. Exclusive experiences to stay overnight will also be arranged at restricted times. Adjacent to the Maison is Courvoisier’s Visitor Center that will be open year round.
Augustin Depardon, Managing Director of the House of Cognac and Champagne at Campari Group, added, “Standing proudly on the Charente River, Maison Courvoisier is a piece of French history that was in need of revival after years of unuse. Maison Courvoisier has been an iconic part of the Cognac region’s fabric since 1828, and we are proud of its legacy. This restoration project was about respecting and paying homage to our past, while setting a stage for Courvoisier’s beautiful future.”
