Edinburgh Gin Key Lime & Ginger launches in Avolta’s UK World Duty Free stores

Ian Macleod Distillers has revealed a new full-strength flavor for its award-winning Edinburgh Gin, created exclusively for global travel experience player, Avolta.

Edinburgh Gin Key Lime & Ginger will initially be available in Avolta’s UK World Duty Free stores.

The new expression (1-L/40% ABV) offers an “exotic but relatable” flavor combination which is the first pairing of its kind in the gin category. Key Lime & Ginger follows Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn, which is now widely available throughout travel retail following a period of exclusivity with World Duty Free. The hero serve for Key Lime & Ginger is with tonic and a squeeze of lime juice, garnished with a lime twist and plenty of ice.

David Wilkinson, Edinburgh Gin Head Distiller, said, “When developing Key Lime & Ginger, we were looking for something refreshing, that could balance the sharp acidity of lime with the warm spiciness of ginger. Key Lime & Ginger achieves this by starting with a refreshing bite of zesty key lime and finishing with tingling ginger spice. A warm but refreshing G&T and the ideal gin for a Gimlet or Gin Mule cocktail.”

Edinburgh Gin is rated as the number one super premium gin in UK travel retail

Following its launch in the UK, the new expression will roll out into Avolta’s stores in many other international locations. It will complement the existing range of full-strength gins: Rhubarb & Ginger, Strawberry & Peppercorn and Classic, along with three Edinburgh Gin liqueurs, Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry, and Elderflower.

David de Miguel, Avolta Global Category Head of Liquor, commented, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Ian Macleod Distillers and Edinburgh Gin with this exciting new and exclusive flavor, the perfect addition to our portfolio.”

Edinburgh Gin’s new packaging is set to debut in travel retail at Edinburgh Airport, before rolling out across the UK and internationally. The new packaging communicates the ‘Filled with Wonder’ positioning to highlight the personality of each of its premium gins, with a focus on the commitment to natural flavors. The new bespoke bottle has moved to 49% recycled glass, which will increase as glassmaking technology allows. It has recyclable aluminium capsules, fully recyclable FSC-certified paper labels, also containing recycled materials and all secondary packaging has been removed across the core range.

“We are delighted to unveil our new full-strength flavored gin, Key Lime & Ginger, which demonstrates the flavor, craftsmanship and creativity of Edinburgh Gin,” said William Ovens, Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director. “We are confident that Key Lime & Ginger will prove to be as successful as Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn, which was voted the Best Berry Gin at the Scottish Gin Awards in 2022 and is now being rolled out throughout global travel retail. It has quite a following, which I’m sure Key Lime & Ginger will replicate.”

Edinburgh Gin, the first gin brand to introduce flavor to the category back in 2010 and the number one super premium gin in UK travel retail, is to open its new distillery and visitor centre in the heart of Edinburgh this summer.
