Ian Macleod Distillers introduces Edinburgh Gin 1670 into GTR
Ian Macleod Distillers is introducing into Global Travel Retail Edinburgh Gin 1670, a limited-edition, full-strength gin, inspired by the Royal Botanic Garden in the city of Edinburgh. It launches exclusively at Singapore Changi Airport with Lotte Travel Retail.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was founded in 1670 and is one of the world’s oldest botanic gardens, renowned for its biodiversity and rich botanical collections. It is also a leading international research organization, delivering knowledge, education and plant conservation action around the world. Edinburgh Gin 1670 (70-cl/ABV 43%/ US$49) was created in partnership with the Garden to support its conservation and sustainability projects and is the only gin to use fresh ingredients sourced directly from the Garden, a treasure trove of over 14,000 botanicals.
Winner of the "Best Innovation Award" at the Scottish Gin Awards 2018 and a gold medal at the Spirits Business Gin Masters 2021, Edinburgh Gin 1670 has a distinctive flavor with botanicals freshly picked from the Garden. Edinburgh Gin’s Head Distiller David Wilkinson and Chief Botanist, Dr. Greg Kenecer, worked together to create an original, botanically rich gin with a balanced yet rare profile. Within each bottle, the likes of sweet cicely, piper leaf and Tasmania lanceolata combine to create a balanced yet enticingly unusual gin.
Wilkinson says, “Working with Greg was an incredible experience. Together, we created something a little sweet, slightly menthol and massively original. It’s an unforgettable collaboration."
Lotte Travel Retail Singapore Managing Director, Jeff Jeong Soon-Gyu says, “Edinburgh Gin has seen positive growth at Singapore Changi Airport and it’s our pleasure to introduce the distinctive Edinburgh Gin 1670 to Lotte’s customers.”
“We are thrilled to introduce into Global Travel Retail Edinburgh Gin 1670, a historical wonder that’s thoroughly modern,” adds Ian Macleod Distillers’ Global Travel Retail Director, William Ovens. “Singapore Changi is a key airport for gin sales in Asia, as well as a vital transit hub for travellers to Australia and New Zealand, both of which are important domestic markets for Edinburgh Gin and the gin category as a whole.”
