Anthon Berg, in partnership with Heinemann, is celebrating 140 years of memorable chocolate at Copenhagen Airport with an activation honoring the brand’s rich history.

In 1956, Anthon Berg revolutionized the travel retail channel for the Danes by introducing the marzipan bar, available for purchase on flights and ferries to and from Denmark. As air travel became more popular, the iconic tube of chocolate bottles was launched especially to fit the sales trolleys on board planes.

Since then, Anthon Berg has not just grown but flourished into a globally renowned premium brand. With a presence in 55 markets, 300 airports, border shops, and ferry shops worldwide, it's a story of unwavering commitment. The brand is celebrated for its sophisticated marzipan and liquor-filled chocolate specialties.

Jens Egelund Jakobsen, International Marketing Manager Anthon Berg, said, “This prolonged activation in partnership with Heinemann celebrates both the past but more importantly our belief to invest in the future. Anthon Berg has seen sustained growth in the past years, and this is down to the unique portfolio of memorable chocolate products like our ‘Grand Cordials’ liquor-filled chocolate bottles, strong license partner brands like Baileys and of course our Nordic marzipan creations.”

The activation celebrates Anthon Berg's rich heritage

The liqueur bottle has featured spirits like Brøndum Akvavit and Cherry Heering Brandy, and since then, countless brand partnerships have been established, including with Cointreau, The Famous Grouse, Rémy Martin, and most recently, Baileys.

The production of these liqueur bottles requires both chocolate-making skills and technical expertise, which in Toms Group have gone hand in hand, making this export success possible. The bottles are crafted without a sugar shell between the chocolate and the liquor – a recognized technique – and production takes place on machinery that, over the years, has been developed and refined by Toms Group's own mechanical engineers.

Today, the liqueur bottle boasts a broad portfolio that satisfies many different taste preferences, from 15-year-old single malts to Pina Colada cocktails made with Caribbean rum. This has given Toms Group a unique position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of liquor-filled chocolate. The spirits used are delivered directly from our licensing partners, ensuring that it’s the real deal inside each chocolate bottle,” Jakobsen added.

As the brand looks to the future, this 140th-anniversary celebration is not only a nod to its remarkable past but also a commitment to continue delivering premium chocolate experiences to travelers worldwide. With the support of strong partnerships like Heinemann and an ever-expanding product range, Anthon Berg is well-positioned for continued growth in the global travel retail market.
